Taste of Independence--so late

For the past two years, I've always contemplated getting an industrial. This has absolutely nothing to do with food. But like good food, I have been craving this particular piercing for quite some time. Now that I'm in college and have a little more leeway with my life, well, it was about time I satisfied this craving.

Friday afternoon, Eve and I headed for downtown Ithaca by bus. And since we obviously have no experience with the tcat bus, we ended up walking more than halfway there ourselves, down a slope, in heels and ankle socks. It wasn't until we got towards the end of Seneca street that I finally realized a. how excited and scared I was for this piercing and b. how many restaurants were in Ithaca. Talk about a challenge: eating at all these places and at the same time not getting the freshmen fifteen?

Eventually we got to Steihl's. And it was wonderful. If anyone at all has any inclination to get any sort of piercing or tattoo, please do come here. It's safe, clean, and super friendly.

Now comes the part you probably all want to hear about. On the way back, we had dinner at Miyake, what I've heard is the best Japanese place here. And it kind of really is all that and a bag of panko breadcrumbs. We got the yakiniku don and the beauty and the beast roll. The yakiniku don was a little sweeter than I've had previously, but it was cooked almost perfectly. It kind of threw me off to see it being served on a plate as opposed to a traditional large bowl, but it's just as tasty. The roll was made with tuna, avocado, and salmon and was absolutely perfect. We did opt for dessert; and ordered a Japanese fried ice cream which only comes in vanilla if you're wondering.
Their service is superb, and the atmosphere is really great and all that. There are a few things I would consider when I come back next time. 1-try to go for lunch, if you're like us and go on a Friday night you're going to hear people sake bombing all around you. So unless you love having people pound on the tables next to you, just keep that in mind. 2-the portions are a fairly good size but so too are the prices. I would probably just come with a friend and order two different rolls and share between us; they have a huge menu, so sharing us definitely the way to go if you want to try everything. 3-the fried ice cream only comes in only one flavor (...). Granted, it was still very good. But next time I think I'll go for the mochi ice cream which has a couple varieties including matcha (green tea).

Running--old and overdue

Today I met up with more Cornellians

Ctown Bagels with Laura. The rosemary and salt bagel was fantastic, I don't even know if I have the heart to try any others. Why mess with it if it's not broken--That's the sort of philosophy I follow.

The raspberry sherbet was also great. That went first.

Lunch we went to Martha's over by Human Ecology, and well, it was a little overpriced. Business there is slow, I guess traffic isn't too heavy there. They have wraps, sandwiches, the usual. Not particularly recommended.

I had a second "lunch" with Zach. That was fun, except I think I only had lemonade and ice cream. This was at RPCC, and it did take a while to find. Since I didn't get to really try their food, I'm not going to give many comments. It did, however, look very promising, so I think I will be back.

there are otter pops in one of the dorms super close to rpcc

dinner was at appel, met eve and wonderful peeps.

super late congregation of asian peeps, made me realize that I have yet to bake, and that I would really love to get started on that.

The Hunt

So, it turns out that I need to memorize the hours that the places to eat on campus are open. So I moved in during the last time slot on Friday. I hadn't anything to eat since a light breakfast in the morning in the hotel. No time to eat that night.

The next morning, I had another light breakfast under the tent for the Alumni Breakfast with my Ma and Dad. Then they were off. I don't recall the events of Saturday exactly, except for a lot of pointless (to me) and repetitive welcoming sessions. And I didn't know that the RPC was open all the time for food. I went to literally every other place I could find for food on Central Campus, and I happened in the time period right after they closed after lunch. And each place I went, they kept telling me they was closed. How terrible! I happened onto Facebook and saw that a bunch of people were going for dinner. Did a "Phone, Wallet, Keys." and ran right downstairs after reading it.

Went to RPC, and it's All-You-Can-Eat. YES! Went to the first line I saw, which was Hot Entrees, and shoveled it down. Went up, got a second plate-full. Then I was satisfied, and thought I wouldn't kill myself by overeating, though another plate or two was pretty feasible. No pictures though. Didn't occur to me at the time.

Today, went to Target in the morning with two of the girls from the third floor. Afterwards, we had brunch. Went through the halls pretty much, with a small group of people, yelling and knocking on doors for who wants to come and get brunch. The group grew bigger as we went along. And then we raided RPC.

An Omelet with red and green peppers, white onions and a bit of cheddar. A pancake with chocolate chips and, I think it was, crushed M&Ms. Pancake was the size of my head, just like I make it. Though a bit overcooked and thinned out, in my opinion. I like mine thicker and slightly undercooked in the middle. The omelet was again, thinned out, though it was runny on the inside, which I approved of. Not how I woulda done my omelets like I do back home (I fit so much more food in mine...), but it tasted good in general.

Just had a lobster dinner, lobster for the first time in my life. Tasted pretty good. Like a tougher form of fish, I thought of. The corn on the cob, I couldn't find butter. I couldn't get halfway through that. The Coleslaw though, that was really good, I loved it. It had enough brine (if they do it like I used to make it back at the deli) to be pretty runny, and not too finely grated. It had nice consistency, and the mix of that and the runny-ness made for a great combo. Since I never had lobster, I really can't comment on that much, though it was an experience trying to get the meat from the inside, haha.

And that's it for now. Three days worth, so a bit long. I'll aim for shorter, more frequent postings, even if it's just a photo and caption. I plan on getting a camera sometime soon, a nice one. Not full out like a DSR, but a simpler one.

So hungry, So busy

First day, orientation and all, how could I possibly pass on food. Unfortunately, with such a crazy day, there was just no way Cornell would let me eat just yet.

I had the most hectic day of travel: red eye from Phoenix, taxi of death to Manhattan, five hour bus to Cornell, and nearly no time to eat in between. Once I got to my dorm, it wasn't much better. Getting my ID, taking a swim test, and going to meetings took up nearly my entire time. Crazy, but at least it only rained for 10 minutes while my swim test was going on.

After finally putting all my stuff from Bed Bath and Beyond (my half a kitchen that I purchased along with my linens) away, I needed to eat. So where better to start than the hot truck, or Louie's, at 1 in the morning. Hello college life.

Messy desk, shake in a generic cup, and fries.

I would definitely suggest getting one of their shakes. I got their coffee shake as a little pick me up. And while it cannot compare to the fair shakes at the Shake Shack, it was still wonderful and my thighs are already fearful that this might become routine. Also got their Cajun fries; these were a little too overly seasoned for me, but when you haven't eaten almost the entire day, you're not going to be too picky.

So excited for the next four years of food! I think I'll start by picking up some ingredients for an apple tart tomorrow.
